Squishmallows-Inspired Birthday Party Ideas: The Cutest Pastel Sleepover Party

If your birthday girl has a bed covered in Squishmallows, knows her favorite characters by name, and would happily spend an entire night surrounded by soft blankets, cupcakes, pastel colors, and her best friends, this Squishmallows-inspired birthday party is going to be hard to beat.
We wanted this party to feel like stepping right into a giant, colorful, extra-cozy Squishmallow collection — but in a way that could actually be recreated at home.
Think:
bubblegum and bright pink
soft lavender
powder and sky blue
iridescent details
colorful balloons
oversized plushies
cozy white sleepover tents
fuzzy fleece blankets
a Squishmallow adoption shop
cupcake decorating
floor seating
pillows everywhere
and just enough colorful chaos to make it feel like a real group of girls had been partying there all afternoon.
And the best part?
So much of this party can be recreated with items you can order online and set up right in your living room.

Squishmallows-Inspired Birthday Party Ideas: The Cutest Pastel Sleepover Party

The inspiration for this party started with everything kids love about Squishmallows: soft textures, adorable characters, happy colors, cozy spaces, and collecting.
Instead of covering every inch of the room with licensed character decorations, we pulled colors and shapes from the plushies themselves.
That gave us a party that still instantly feels like a Squishmallows birthday party, while also feeling bright, modern, girly and special enough for a tween or older elementary-age birthday.
Our main color palette included:
Powder Blue • Bubblegum Pink • Bright Pink • Lavender • Cream • White • Iridescent Silver
Start With One Big Squishmallows Party Backdrop
If you only create one big decorating moment, make it the backdrop.
This is what gives the entire party its theme.
We used a solid pale-blue arch backdrop as the base instead of an overly busy printed background.
Around it, we layered balloons in pink, lavender, light blue and coordinating pastel shades, then brought in Squishmallows as actual pieces of the decor.
A few iridescent and shiny details help break up all the matte pastel colors.
The secret is not trying to squeeze every possible color into the balloon garland.
Keeping blue, pink and purple dominant makes the entire setup photograph beautifully.
Recreate the Backdrop
Look for:
A Low Floor Table Makes the Party Feel Like a Giant Sleepover
Instead of a traditional dining table, we created a low birthday table surrounded by floor cushions.
This one change completely transforms the room.
It feels cozier and much more like a birthday sleepover.
A soft light-blue tablecloth anchors the setup while bright pink, lavender and iridescent details make everything pop.
Add in:
The goal is for the table to look like the girls can actually sit down, eat pizza and decorate cupcakes.
Add Neon Table Lights for a Little Extra Magic
One of my favorite little details in this party is adding small LED or neon-style lights throughout the table.
They look adorable during the day and make the table even better once the sleepover portion of the party starts.
Scatter them between treats, plushies and place settings rather than lining them up perfectly.
Turn the Sleepover Area Into Part of the Decor
The sleepover area might be my favorite part of this entire party.
We used simple white teepee tents so the colorful bedding and accessories could do all the work.
Each tent gets its own little personality with:
Personalizing each sleeping spot with the girls' names makes the setup feel especially fun when everyone arrives.
Imagine walking into the room and immediately finding your own tent.
That is the kind of detail kids remember.
Create a Squishmallow Adoption Shop
Now for the activity I would absolutely include.
A Squishmallow Adoption Shop turns the party favor into an experience.
Instead of handing each guest a favor bag on the way out, display the plushies together and let each girl choose the one she wants to adopt.
We styled ours on a tall white bookcase so it feels almost like a tiny boutique.
Arrange Squishmallows on the shelves by color or size (we used the 8" size), then add a small balloon or party arch nearby to visually connect the station to the rest of the party.
You don't need a ton of signs.
One clear sign telling the girls what to do is enough.
ADOPTION SHOP
1. Pick Your Squish
2. Give It a Name
3. Fill Out Its Adoption Card
4. Take Your New Friend Home
Simple and cute.
And something the kids can actually understand.
Make Squishmallow Adoption Cards
Next to the plushies, set out little adoption cards.
Add colorful pens, name tags and simple gift bags nearby so guests can package up their new plush before going home.
This is also an easy activity to have available while guests are arriving.
Set Up a Squishmallow Cupcake Decorating Station
Instead of putting out a giant finished dessert table that kids aren't allowed to touch, make dessert one of the activities.
Our Cupcake Decorating Station starts with plain cupcakes and lets the girls create the colorful part themselves.
Set out:
Sectioned sprinkle trays are especially helpful here because you can put several toppings out without needing ten separate bowls.
Don't frost everything in advance.
The messy decorating is half the fun.
And yes — there will probably be sprinkles everywhere.
That's part of the party.
Make the Cupcakes Look Like Tiny Squishmallow Characters
Put candy eyes, small candies and different frosting colors on the table and let them create whatever they want.
Just decorate and eat.
Design Your Own Squish at the Squishmallow Art + Craft Center
If you want a Squishmallows birthday party activity that can keep kids busy for more than five minutes, this might be my favorite.
We created a full Design Your Own Squish art center where each guest gets to dream up her own completely original Squish character.
The station feels almost like a tiny Squishmallow design studio.
A large pastel backdrop anchors the area with pink, lavender, aqua and bright blue balloons, while a long craft table gives everyone plenty of room to create.
Each place setting starts with a simple blank Squish-shaped character template.
Then the girls take over.
That is what makes this activity so fun.
Some girls might design a pastel unicorn.
Someone else might make a strawberry cat.
Another might create a frog wearing a crown.
And suddenly you have an entire collection of one-of-a-kind Squish creations made by the guests themselves.
Turn Their Squish Designs Into Party Decor
One of the cutest parts of this setup is displaying the finished artwork as the girls complete it.
We used a pegboard-style display with colorful heart clips so the drawings could hang behind the craft station like a mini gallery.
Instead of hiding the crafts in a pile until the end of the party, the artwork actually becomes part of the decor.
As more girls finish, the wall gets brighter, fuller and more personal.
It also creates one of those perfectly imperfect details that makes a kids' birthday party feel real.
Different handwriting.
Different drawing styles.
Different colors.
And everyone's Squish looks completely different.
What You Need for a Design Your Own Squish Station
Make a Squishmallow Charm at the DIY Charm Bar
If there is one activity that combines craft + party favor + something the girls will actually use afterward, it's this one.
Our Squishmallow Charm Bar lets every guest create her own personalized beaded keychain or bag charm using colorful beads, letters, tassels and tiny Squish-inspired character charms.
And visually?
This station is adorable.
We used a pink gingham tablecloth with clear acrylic organizers filled with:
The supplies themselves become the party decor.
The girls can spell their names, initials or favorite words with letter beads and then choose a character charm to finish the design.
Think:
SOPHIA
LILLIAN
DREAM
SQUISH
Or simply initials for a more subtle bag charm.
Add coordinating beads in pink, aqua, lavender and cream, then finish each keychain with a pastel tassel.
The results feel much more special than a typical take-home favor.
Set Up the Charm Bar Like a Tiny Boutique
Instead of dumping everything into one large bowl, separate the supplies into little containers.
Labeling the sections makes it easier for kids to see their choices:
BEADS
LETTER BEADS
CHARACTER CHARMS
HEARTS + STARS
TASSELS
Then display a few finished examples nearby.
That helps younger guests understand what they're making while still leaving plenty of room for creativity.
What You Need for a Squishmallow Charm Bar
Let the Finished Charm Become Part of the Favor
This is another place where you can simplify the goodie bags.
Each girl leaves with something she designed herself, and she can clip it onto:
her backpack
dance bag
pencil pouch
sleepover bag
purse
lunch bag
It's personalized, useful and completely tied into the party.
Open a Late-Night Squish Shop Before Bed
And then comes the station that might get the biggest reaction of the entire night.
Instead of handing everyone a pre-packed sleepover favor bag, we turned the favors into a tiny shopping experience.
Guests can visit the shop later in the evening and choose a few goodies to pack inside their own iridescent pouch.
Our shop includes:
mini Squish-style plushies
fuzzy sleep masks
pastel scrunchies
mini flashlights
lip balm
Squish stickers
iridescent zipper pouches
This isn't just a favor table.
It becomes another activity.
The girls get to browse.
Choose their favorites.
Pack their bags.
Compare what everyone picked.
And then take the whole thing back to their teepees for the night.
What to Put in a Squishmallow Sleepover Favor Shop
You definitely don't need to include everything.
Pick four or five items that fit your budget.
Some cute ideas include:
Give Each Guest an Iridescent Squish Shop Bag
Rather than using traditional paper favor bags, we gave each guest a reusable iridescent zipper pouch.
This immediately makes the favor feel more substantial.
The pouches also coordinate beautifully with all the pink, blue and lavender party decor.
Once each girl visits the Late-Night Squish Shop, she can fill her pouch with a few favorite items.
A finished bag might include:
Easy.
Useful.
And incredibly cute laid out together.
Make the Squish Shop Part of the Sleepover Schedule
I wouldn't open this station immediately when guests arrive - save it.
Opening the Late-Night Squish Shop after cake, crafts and presents gives the girls something new to look forward to later in the evening.
A party schedule could look something like this:
Guests Arrive + Explore the Party
Design Your Own Squish
Make Squishmallow Charms
Dinner
Cupcake Decorating
Presents + Birthday Photos
Squishmallow Adoption Shop
Open the Late-Night Squish Shop
Change Into Pajamas
Movie + Snacks
Lights Out... Eventually
That last one may be optimistic. 😉
Easy Squishmallows Birthday Party Food Ideas
You do not need an elaborate themed menu.
With several activities already happening, simple kid-friendly food makes the most sense.
Try:
pizza
popcorn
fruit
pretzels
pastel candies
mini sandwiches
lemonade
pink punch
bottled water
cupcakes
Use the colors of the party in the serving pieces rather than trying to turn every single food into a character.
The Perfect Party Schedule
You don't need to schedule every minute, but having a loose order keeps a sleepover party from becoming chaotic.
Guests Arrive
Let everyone explore the setup, find their tent and hang out in the lounge.
Adopt a Squishmallow
Open the Adoption Shop and let each guest choose a new friend.
Fill Out Adoption Cards
Name the plushies and invent their favorite snacks and superpowers.
Dinner
Pizza or another easy meal works perfectly.
Cupcake Decorating
Bring everyone to the decorating station and let the sprinkles fly.
Presents + Photos
Use the main balloon backdrop for birthday photos.
Movie + Snacks
Move to the teepee area with blankets, Squishmallows, popcorn and treats.
Sleepover
Turn down the main lights and let the smaller party lights glow.
What I Would Spend Money On
If you're trying to decide where to put the budget, prioritize the things that create the biggest impact.
1. Squishmallows
They're the theme, decor and favors all at once.
2. Balloons
One substantial balloon installation can transform an ordinary room.
3. Sleepover Textiles
Fleece blankets and cute pillows make the setup look full while also being useful.
4. The Adoption Shop
This becomes both an activity and the favor display.
5. Cupcake Decorating Supplies
Another activity and dessert combined into one purchase.
Everything else can stay relatively simple.

The Best Part of This Squishmallows Party
What I love most about this party is that almost everything has a purpose.
The Squishmallows become favors.
The cupcakes become an activity.
The teepees become decor and sleeping spaces.
The floor table becomes both the dining and craft table.
The blankets and pillows create the party aesthetic but also make the movie area cozy.
And the backdrop gives you a place for all those birthday photos.
